Jenny Lizak's fundraiser for CHIRP

Dear Friends,

10 years ago, I sat in a dark pub with a few friends discussing our love of music and radio and how the only way to truly protect a vision of independent, local radio from large corporate or outside interests was by creating our own station. Since that day, we've worked hard to do just that. Through blood, sweat and tears, we've built an organization that has over 250 volunteers, thriving relationships with the local arts and music community in Chicago and beyond including our well known events like the Record Fairs and First Time series, and award winning podcast series, and a live and local online broadcast 365 days of the year. No where else on the radio dial will you find the eclectic, thoughtful and lovingly curated mix of music that you hear on CHIRP - there's simply nothing like us.

But there's one thing that's eluded us - something we've wanted since that very first conversation - an antenna. Finally, after we helped lead the passage of the Local Community Radio Act, waited for the FCC to approve our application, dealt with permitting and construction hurdles, we've got the antenna going up as you are reading this, and you'll be able to hear us live over the airwaves on 107.1FM in October!

In honor of this achivement - and recognizing the approximately $10,000 per year operating cost of the antenna - I'm asking you to make a contribution to help support the station this year and beyond. Maybe you can give $10.71? Or perhaps you can give a little more, like $107? Whatever you can afford, please show your appreciation for the quality service you receive from CHIRP every day by contributing something - anything - right now.

So many of you have supported me in so many ways over the last ten years - whether it was coming to a fundraiser, tuning in to my show, or understanding when I had to miss family and friends parties because I was busy on Sunday afternoons keeping the station going. None of us could have done this without the support of our family and friends - this achievement is for you too! I appreciate your support!

Jenny
